Ram Gopal Varma is making young India see red over the ‘tweaking’ of the national anthem for his latest film Rann. Unlike AR Rahman’s version of Vande Mataram, which had different lyrics but the same spirit as the original, RGV’s Jana Gana Mana talks of the death of conscience and national strife, in complete contrast to Rabindranath Tagore’s unifying theme. “Jana gana mana rann hai / Iss rann mein zakhmi hua hai Bharat ka bhagya vidhata,” goes RGV’s song.
